A genuine piece of South African angling heritage. The Nite Hawk centrepin reel was designed by East Rand bank angler Bennie Swart and became a cult favourite among Vaal River and Highveld freshwater anglers — prized for its long, silky casts and that unmistakable ratchet sound when a big fish takes the line, a sound old-school anglers still talk about decades later.

This is the 7003 model, made from a tin alloy with the characteristic narrow spool design — built for distance casting over the wide sandbanks and margins these reels were made for. Fully working — ratchet and free-spool action operate smoothly, ready to fish or display.

Nite Hawk reels were only produced for a limited run before being overtaken by "coffee grinder" spinning reels in the 90s, making genuine surviving examples increasingly hard to find — spares are scarce and originals are now sought after by collectors and old-school anglers alike. A fully functional example like this one is a step up from the display-only pieces most commonly found today.

Whether you're after a serious tackle-box addition for tight-line fishing, or a striking display piece for a tackle room, man cave, or curiosity collection — this is a real conversation starter for anyone who fished the Vaal in its heyday.
