A genuine pair of 1930s rugby boots by Cuthbert's, one of South Africa's oldest and most iconic footwear retailers, founded in 1882. Named "Springbok Flier" — a nod to the national rugby jersey and the era's obsession with speed on the wing — these boots feature the traditional hardened leather toe and hand-fixed leather stud construction typical of pre-war rugby footwear. Boots of this era and style are sometimes informally referred to by collectors as "Bennie Oslers," after the legendary Springbok fly-half of the period, renowned for his kicking.

Details:

  • Genuine 1930s Cuthbert's rugby boots, "Springbok Flier" model
  • Size: UK 6
  • Leather studs with clearly visible fixing nails — a genuine hallmark of authentic period construction, not a later reproduction
  • Distinctive flat, hardened toe, reflecting both the protective boot-making standards of the era and the toe-first kicking technique common in rugby before modern instep kicking became standard
  • Condition: very good, with some minor scuff marks consistent with genuine age and use
  • A rare, tangible piece of South African rugby and footwear history

Dimensions:

  • UK Size 6
  • 29cm heel to toe (external measurement)
