A genuine cast metal builder's plate marked "Built at CSAR, Pretoria, 1910." CSAR \u2014 the Central South African Railways \u2014 operated the public railways of the Transvaal Colony and Orange River Colony from 1902 until 31 May 1910, when it merged with the Cape Government Railways and Natal Government Railways to form the unified South African Railways. This plate dates from the very final year of CSAR's independent existence, built at their own Pretoria works shortly before that historic merger \u2014 a genuinely rare piece of pre-Union South African railway history.
